About LifeScore Labs

LifeScore Labs, LLC is a new business unit created by MassMutual to productize and commercialize selected intellectual property developed by MassMutual’s Data Science team. 

 

At LifeScore Labs, Product team members help design and implement innovative data science-based products for our customers. Reporting to LifeScore Labs’ Head of Product, the Life Underwriting Innovation Lead will become an expert on the LifeScore Labs underwriting product toolkit and will split time between external meetings with prospects and clients, and internal discussions with data, engineering, design team members. This is a great opportunity to get broad business-creation and product-development experience and to have a significant impact on the success of a new venture.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of our products, business goals, and audience 

  • Support development of strategic plans, working in partnership with the broader team to achieve ongoing growth goals

  • Continually maintain familiarity with life underwriting innovations and innovators in the US life insurance market.

  • Support LifeScore Labs in client development efforts including implementation planning, client communications, and internal resource coordination

  • Advise clients and partners on algorithmic and automated underwriting practices; partner with our clients to find practical steps to introduce or advance the use of predictive models into life underwriting processes.  

  • Manage projects and engagements involving external clients/partners and internal stakeholders.

  • Collaborate effectively with engineering/development to ensure that products and product features align to customer needs.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Fluent in current life underwriting practices, data sources, and operation tools and methods.

  • Familiarity or experience with customer experience / UX design, design thinking, and agile development principles is a plus.

  • 8+ years of combined experience in product management or life insurance strategy/operations, with 3+ years as a life underwriting leader or innovator.

  • Willing and able to learn and explain data science concepts

  • Experience with qualitative research, interviewing, and market analysis is a plus

  • Analytical – presents meaning, not just numbers.

  • Experience presenting findings, building decks with the ability to gain buy-in through effective communications

  • Collaborative, inquisitive, adaptive.

  • B.A. or B.S. or (Master’s degree a plus)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

 

About the Product

LifeScore Labs has brings to market industry-leading mortality risk models that enable insurers to more efficiently and accurately measure the risk of their applicants and make decisions more quickly. These models were developed using advance machine learning and have been demonstrated to outperform traditional underwriting methodologies. As a result, our models can significantly reduce the time to issue a policy, improve the take rate on offered policies, and improve claims experience for insurers.  We’ve proven the results to the bottom line within MassMutual and they have been independently demonstrated with another carrier.
